2 min read

It’s “fair” time; let the good times roll! Are you planning to attend the Southwest Florida Fair? And, if you’re planning to attend on Monday, Feb. 28, do you know that you can get free admission? This night is designated as “Harry Chapin Food Bank Night.” All you need to do is bring in a donation of nonperishable food to obtain free entrance.

Join your friends at the fair for the best in livestock, agriculture, carnival, good food, and great times. Parking is free. The Feb. 28 night entertainment includes music by Music City Brass and Kandu, The Great Shark Adventure, Youth Talent Show-Senior Division, Goat Judging Competition, and the Adult Tractor Driving Contest.

The food collected at the fair on Feb. 28 will be donated to the Harry Chapin Food Bank for distribution at no cost to its local nonprofit agencies. Last year, over 6,000 pounds of food was collected, along with $5,000, which provided an additional $30,000 in food to our community.

The Harry Chapin Food Bank solicits, collects and stores quality food for distribution to families in need through a network of more than 170 local nonprofit agencies in Lee, Collier, Hendry, Charlotte and Glades counties, who provide food to more than 30,000 people monthly. Over 800,900 pounds of food are distributed monthly. For every dollar donated, about $6 in food value goes back to the community. In the past fiscal year, The Harry Chapin Food Bank distributed more than 11.5 million pounds of food and other grocery products.
