1 min read

Dr. Carrie D. Robinson Littleton Elementary School in North Fort Myers and the Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program presented a Family Fun and Science Night for those of all ages on Thursday, Feb. 10.

Over 200 students, parents, and community members participated in the evenings events. Participants learned how to conserve the environment through responsible watering, organic gardening, and utilizing recycled materials to build container gardens.

In addition, students had an opportunity to meet with a local astronomer and build a mini solar system to scale under the lights of the P.E. pavilion. In the art room, students led a presentation of composting using worms, paper, and soil to enrich soil.

Participants left with a container garden to grow their own vegetables, a worm bin to replenish their garden with healthy soil, and the knowledge of how to grow a sustainable resource that can provide nutrition and sustenance for their families for years to come. “This was a fantastic example of schools partnering with community organizations to deliver high quality service learning,” said Littleton Elementary Assistant Principal Robert Cooper.
