Operation Medicine Cabinet – Day One Results
The first of 5 Operation Medicine Cabinet events was held Monday in North Fort Myers at the Camber of Commerce with amazing results, said Lee County Sheriff’s Office Officials.
In that day alone, the citizens of Lee County turned in:
Pills 58,966
Ointments/Creams 114
Patches 1,348
Syringes 755
Inhalers 74
Liquids 576
The oldest prescription turned in was from November 1975 (over 30 years old) and was a bottle of old pills.
In addition, many people took advantage of the Department of Environmental Protection’s offer of a One Day Pass for entry into any Florida State Park for one vehicle; some restrictions apply, to anyone turning in medications, plastic bags, old cell phones and batteries.
If you were unable to attend that event you still have time to drop off any old and unused prescriptions, pet medications and syringes at any one of the following locations from 10 am to 2 pm:
Wednesday, February 9th at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office West District Substation at 15650 Pine Ridge Road, Ft. Myers, FL 33908
Thursday, February 10th at the Regal Cinemas Gulf Coast Town Center at 10028 Gulf Center Drive, Ft. Myers, FL 33913
Plus, there will be one last opportunity on Saturday, February 12th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Old Navy located in Page Field Commons; located at 4995 South Cleveland Avenue, Ft. Myers, FL 33907. At this location we will have many displays and vendors such as the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Crime Prevention Unit, K-9 Unit, Abby Services, K-consulting, Brookdale Senior Living, Department of Environmental Protection, Lee Elder Abuse Prevention Partnership, Delta Family Counseling, Mobile Veterinarian, Lee Memorial Blood Mobile, McGruff the Crime Dog, The American Red Cross and many, many more.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the Florida Crime Prevention Association, K-consulting, Abby Services, Brookdale Senior Living, CVS Pharmacy, and Old Navy for “Operation Medicine Cabinet”, the latest installment of the Pharmaceutical Take Back Program. Five locations will be available to drop off your old, unused prescription and over the counter medications for proper disposal.
There is no cost to turn in your medications and all participants will remain anonymous.
