Burrowing Owl Festival art contest winners honored
On Sunday, March 13, Harbour View Gallery in Cape Coral hosted a reception honoring winners and other participants in the 2011 Burrowing Owl Festival art contest for elementary, middle and high school students.
Twenty-five students from seven schools in Cape Coral, North Fort Myers and Fort Myers participated. Three prizes and one honorable mention awards were issued for each division. Their artwork will remain on display in the gallery through March.
First place winners received $50, second place winners $25 and third place winners $10; all also received a one-year family membership to Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife.
The award-winning artists were:
Elementary division
– First place: Sarah Sinclair, 3rd grade, Oasis Elementary
– Second: Vincent Maldonado, 5th grade, Oasis Elementary
– Third: Derrick Robles, 5th grade, Christa McAuliffe Elementary
– Honorable Mention: Cameron Sinclair, Christa McAuliffe Elementary
Middle school division
– First place: Zane Torregrossa, 7th grade, North Fort Myers Academy for the Arts
– Second: Rachael Tharp, 8th grade, North Fort Myers Academy for the Arts
– Third: Emily Coxe, 7th grade, North Fort Myers Academy for the Arts
– Honorable Mention: Madeleine Cole, 6th grade, Fort Myers Christian
High school division
– First Place: Kendalle Anderson, 9th grade, Oasis High School
– Second: Amber Olivarez, 11th grade, Cape Coral High School
– Third: Alyssa Wilson, 12th grade, Ida Baker High School
– Honorable Mention: Killian Muollo, 10th grade, Cape Coral High School
Harbour View Gallery is an artists-owned cooperative gallery comprised of award winning local artists at the Cape Harbour Marina Promenade of Cape Harbour. Gallery watercolor artist Shirley Hales, along with other prominent local artists Honey Archey and Charlotte Lacoste, judged the contest.
Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife is comprised of citizens of Cape Coral and surrounding communities who want to help the area’s burrowing owls and other wildlife thrive as the community grows.
