ANDREA GALABINSKI Gregg Makepeace, current president of the North Fort Myers Civic Association, talks about importance of the organization to the community.

At the annual Membership Meeting of the North Fort Myers Civic Association, new board members were elected and have now been announced.

“We had 12 seats on the board and seven were open and we filled six seats,” said Gregg Makepeace, current president of the North Fort Myers Civic Association. “There is still one seat open, and we welcome any member of the association to apply.”

Some of the board members are new, some have held seats in the past but their terms had expired, and they came back in. “The new board members include two new people -Frank DiMaria and Mike Land. Re-elected from previous board service were Bill Hanners, Jack Howerton, Kathy Przybyla and Rose Mary Rinkevicz.”

Erik Brillhart, Lee Cummins, Gregg Makepeace, Lauren Reynolds and Ron Wilder all have current board status.

Interest and importance of the Civic Association is critical in these times, Makepeace said. The Civic Association’s sole purpose is the betterment of North Fort Myers, and the group addresses all issues and concerns about North Fort Myers in general.

The non-political, non-partisan organization includes residents of North Fort Myers proper and the Bayshore community.

At the meeting, North Fort Myers Fire Chief Terry Pye and Chief Larry Nisbet of the Bayshore Fire & Rescue District both spoke about their respective areas, issues and concerns. “They were very well received by attendees,” said Makepeace.

The organization gives residents the opportunity to bring their issues and concerns to the board and see where it can help. “These meeting are becoming more and more important; we need to be visible in the community on these issues.”

The association meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at Community of Christ Church, 368 Herron Rd., throughout the year.

Makepeace said one key focus for the group is proposed new North Fort Myers Recreation Center.
