Seventh Annual Deputy Pat Healey Poker Run
A group that raises money for the families of fallen first responders is gearing up for its biggest money raiser of the year. The Defenders is a social club comprised of active and retired law enforcement officers who share a common interest of motorcycle riding and travel. For the seventh year, the group is spearheading the Deputy Pat Healey Poker Run. The annual charity poker run is named for the Lee County deputy who died in the line of duty in 2004.
The event will be held Sunday, April 17th. Registration begins at 9:30 am at Fort Myers Harley-Davidson (located at 2160 Colonial Boulevard). The first bike leaves at 10:00 am with the last bike out at 1:30 pm. As is the custom each year, the poker run will take riders through scenic areas of Lee County, winding for approximately 55 miles through Estero, South Fort Myers, Fort Myers Beach and North Fort Myers. The ride will end at Arizona Pizza Company located at 8700 Gladiolus Drive.
“This is an event we look forward to each and every year,” says Defenders Motorcycle Club member Augie Malagon, also a lieutenant with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. “I can think of no better way to honor the life of Pat Healey than to help families of first responders who have left us too soon.”
