Traffic fatality involving four-year old

On Monday, April 11, 2011, at 5:12 p.m., the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a traffic crash. The incident occurred at 4804 Garcia Avenue, Fort Myers, Florida. Deputies responded to the scene.

Upon arrival deputies confirmed a four-year old girl had been critically injured after being struck by a red, 2005 Chevy Silverado pickup truck. The child was transported to the Trauma Center at Lee Memorial Hospital. She died as a result of her injuries. Due to the nature of the incident, deputies and traffic homicide detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit were assigned to investigate.

Forty-three year old (d.o.b. 11-3-67) Damon J. Drouin of 190 Vermont Avenue, Fort Myers, Florida has been charged in connection with the fatality. Drouin was working on the stereo in the pick-up truck with a friend in the driveway of the aforementioned address. Drouin was in the driver’s seat when asked to move the truck backwards to continue the work. While backing up the youth was struck. She is identified as Jaleesa Gonzalez (d.o.b. 4-20-06) of 4804 Garcia Avenue, Fort Myers, Florida.

Drouin has been transported to the Lee County Jail. An inmate photo will be available after processing. He is charged with one count each of driving while license suspended causing death; driving on a suspended license three or more times; and, driving on a suspended license – habitual traffic offender.
