Two Students Arrested After Hatching Plan To Stab Another Student And Light Him On Fire
Two 10 year old students at Rayma C. Page Elementary School are under arrest for threatening the life of a fellow student and bringing the weapons to school to do the job. Deon Cheely, DOB 5-15-00, of 2569 Highland Avenue, Fort Myers and Kaitlyn Lynch, DOB 7-27-00, of 7392 Constitution Circle, Fort Myers are each charged with Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Battery; Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Possession of a Weapon on School Property.
On April 6, 2011 at approximately 9:30 am, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office was contacted in reference to a student being found to be in possession of a weapon on the school bus. Witnesses on the bus say they saw Lynch reach into her book bag and grab a steak knife telling the victim “I’m going to stab you with this knife.” Lynch then told the victim that Cheely was going to stab him as well. When the victim exited the bus, he was confronted by Cheely who attempted to fight with the victim. A witness told Cheely to leave the victim alone and walked with the victim to the cafeteria where they summoned help.
After being escorted to the main office by one of the teachers, an administrative search of Lynch’s book bag revealed two black handled steak knives and two lighters.
A Lee County sheriff’s detective conducted an investigation including interviews with witnesses. The investigation revealed that Cheely and Lynch had devised a plan to lead the victim toward the boys restroom where they would beat him until he lost consciousness before “shanking” him and lighting him on fire.
At the conclusion of the investigation, based on independent witness statements and the evidence recovered, Cheely and Lynch were arrested. Both were transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center for processing.
