Doggie Heaven officials announce summer hours
Officials from Doggie Heaven, the canine sports park at the Shell Factory & Nature Park, have announced new summer hours for the long-anticipated park.
Summer hours for the public are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and 6 p.m. to sunset Friday.
Aqua Dog Sports, home of the SunCoast DockDogs, and the Southwest Florida Wiener Dog Club are involved with the park and have regular meetings there.
On Fridays, Agility 101 takes place at 6 p.m.
And there is not just the dog park atmosphere and group meetings. There will also be Sunday services where you can bring your pet.
“Every Sunday at 8 a.m. there will be a breakfast at the park and at 10 a.m. a very short religious service,” said Richard Dunmire, who is the official planner for Doggie Heaven.
“A friend came to us and asked why we didn’t have a service,” Dunmire said. “Now that is incorporated in Doggie Heavens’ schedule.
The other main attraction is held Thursdays and Sundays.
“They are the prime time,” he said.

The park only recently opened.
“The opening was great and we have big events coming soon, including wiener dog races, dock dog competition and agility competitions,” said Dunmire.
