Free workshop to highlight family budgets
The Florida Department of Financial Service and CredAbility are sponsoring a free financial literacy workshop in North Fort Myers on Wednesday, June 15.
Titled Starting a Family Budget ‘A Family Affair’ the workshop will be held at Bank of America, 571 Pine Island Rd., starting at 6:30 p.m.
“What we will be offering is a financial workshop to present tools to help them start a budget, and also by creating a family budget it will show how you can increase your income using the tools,” said Terry Cerullo, Community Outreach and Education coordinator, representing Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater of the Florida State Department of Financial Services.
“In other words, it can help you learn how to keep more cash in your pocket.”
He said there are both paper and computer tools. “We certainly recommend that families that have middle and high school students attend so we can make it a family affair.”
CredAbility is a nonprofit nationwide credit and housing counseling agency and they will be showing various tools during the workshop,” Cerullo said. “They are outstanding partners.”
Participants will get to know how to create a daily and weekly budget, and there will be suggestions on how to pay bills with your income.
Jeff Atwater’s theme since he has taken office, Cerullo said, is to help Floridian’s keep more of their hard earned money in their pockets.
There will be handouts and workbooks, and attendees have the ability to schedule chances to learn more about their credit.
There will be one-on-ones with presenters, and talk about credit scores and how important that is to the family.
