New Horseback Riding Summer Camp in North Fort Myers offers riding and traditional summer farm fun
A new Horseback Riding Summer Camp has launched this week in North Fort Myers. It will not only offer horsemanship, but good, old-fashioned summer fun — including fishing in a pond, trail rides, nature walks and more.
The new camp is out of Lazy S-n-K Ranch, located on the far end of North Fort Myers.
Where else can you enjoy a peaceful 10-acre plus farm land, then out in the country?
The camp will be run by 21-year-old Katie Ferguson of North Fort Myers, with help from mom Cecelia (a teacher at Bayshore Elementary School) and dad Brent (a former horse trainer) along with fellow camp counselor 25-year-old Courtney Linton from Lehigh Acres.
The name of the ranch — Lazy S-n-K – is for the two sisters who live there –Katie and Sarah.
Katie said she will instruct on both English and Western riding. “But my preference is Western,” she said.
An accomplished, award-winning rider she is also a college student studying business throughout the school year at Edison college.
She started riding as a very young child, and began showing horses professionally at the age of 12. She’s been part of 4-H, the Lee County Horseman’s Association and more. “I even spent one Thanksgiving with my horse at a show in Venice.”
The camp offers a variety of fun. “They will learn how to ride and take care of horses,” Katie said. They will also learn about tack, and have the opportunity to do the other farm activities.
The family pond will be open for fishing, and the family pool open for swimming each day. There are plans for trail rides, cookouts and more.
The camp will welcome children 6 to 18. After starting this week, new sessions will be offered weekly throughout the summer.
“I wanted to start this camp because I love horses, and we have great horses here,” she said.
The ring is also lit at night for night time riding and lessons. Riding lessons are available for both children and adults, along with the summer camp.

“Being out here like this is a forgotten thing sometimes,” her mother said.
Horses include Trooper, Lewie, Skippy and Chip. Of Lewie, her mother said, “I would put my money on him being one of the nicest horses in all of Lee County.”
The summer camps will be offered at both half day and full day. Half day is $150 per week, and full day $300 per week. Lessons will be given at $40 per hour.
“They will have a wonderful experience,” mom Cecelia said.
