Teens Charged in Violent Robbery

Robbery detectives with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office have charged two teenagers for committing a robbery last Friday night at Luxxor Casino in Lehigh Acres. Thanks to a Crime Stoppers tip, one suspect, 17 year old David Blair of 1408 Kimdale Street E, Lehigh Acres was identified during the investigation. He was located and taken into custody on Tuesday, June 7th. He is the suspect seen beating the victim in video surveillance footage released to media.
The second suspect is identified as 16 year old John Scroggins of 101 Johns Avenue, Lehigh Acres. He was tracked down early this morning by deputies assigned to the Bravo District SET Team. He was found at a residence in Cape Coral and taken into custody. The investigation continues.
The two face charges of robbery with a weapon. They will be booked at the Lee County Juvenile Assessment Center. On Friday, June 3, 2011, at 11:04 p.m., the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a robbery. The incident occurred at the business of Luxxor Casino, 5598 8th Street West, Lehigh Acres, Florida. Deputies responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, deputies met with a 32 year old female employee who was bleeding from the back of the head. The employee was leaving the business after closing when confronted by two male subjects. One began to hit her in the head and face, while the other entered the business and stole an undisclosed amount of cash. They fled the location on foot. One suspect was described as wearing all black and the other a gray sweatshirt and dark pants. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.
A K9 unit arrived to conduct a track of the suspects. It led to 6th Street West where the robbers likely left in a vehicle.
Due to the nature of the incident, crime scene technicians with the Sheriff’s Office Forensics Unit were summoned to collect and document evidence. Surveillance video has been retrieved by a video production specialist and will be made available to media. Detectives with the Robbery Unit are continuing the investigation.
