NFM Chamber Great Community Treasure Hunt live event brings out hundreds

2 min read

Hundreds turned out over the weekend for the second annual Great Community Treasure Hunt, sponsored by the North Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce.

Marketing representative Michelle Brisendine of Servpro of Cape Coral, North Fort Myers and Punta Gorda served as The North Fort Myers Honorary Mayor. She greeted treasure hunters and distributed 150 donated backpacks, funded by the Chamber Foundation and Marco Office Supply.

“We had a great turnout,” she said. “The backpacks are one of the ways the chamber gives back to the community.”

Many businesses gave out big prizes, including an air conditioning unit by Ellsworth’s Heating & Cooling Inc.

Pat Huffmaster from Huffmaster Music Centre of Music & Learning provided entertainment, including performances by vocalist student Lexi Rucker.

Huffmaster said she will help coordinate the talent show for this year’s Lee County Fair.

Other area businesses and organizations had displays at the event, including the Edison & Ford Winter Estates and Best Western Waterfront.

Edison & Ford Winter Estates Membership Coordinator Darlene Hermey answered questions on the popular area attraction, and Best Western’s Director of Sales Sandra Moxley and Interim General Manager Ashley Carroll talked about their site.

“We have the best view in North Fort Myers,” said Moxley, of their location right on the Calosahatchee River.

Many other businesses offered information and giveaways, including Danielle Hall, owner of Bayshore Physical Therapy & Massage, who gave free chair massages.

The event was created as a fun way to profile local businesses. Treasure hunters looked for clues online, either on the chamber’s website or the businesses’ websites, or came to the event held throughout the grounds of the Shell Factory & Nature Park.

Several dog owners dressed up their pets for a Pet Pirate contest. They included Darline Pinheiro of Cape Coral who brought well-dressed dog Ellie, with Ellie in rhinestone skull and crossbones, and Adam Vinsont with dog Chip, who turned out in his pirate colors.

The North Fort Myers Neighbor and the Breeze Newspapers were a title sponsor for the event.
