Prescription drug abuse can not be taken lightly. Every day in the United States approximately 2,500 youths between the ages of 12 and 17 will abuse prescription drugs for the very first time. Operation Medicine Cabinet not only provides a way for you to dispose of your medications without posing a danger to the environment, but also helps to keep these drugs falling into the wrong hands.
In the first 4 months of 2011, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office hosted a series Operation Medicine Cabinet events which have resulted in the collection of over 417,000 pills, 2,600 liquids, 600 creams, 33,000 syringes, 3,200 patches, 1,200 inhalers and 100 powders; these included prescription and over the counter medications. There is no cost to turn in your medications and all participants will remain anonymous. Please, take the time to clean out your medicine cabinet – it just might save a life!
