Tara Woods to host 50’s and 60’s Benefit Dance
Members of the Tara Woods community will host a 50’s and 60’s Benefit Dance on Saturday, Sept. 24, to benefit the Southwest Florida Medical Reserve Corps.
The mission of SWFLMRC is to recruit, train and organize medical, public health and lay volunteers to respond to local disasters. It also works to assist in other public health needs, such as disaster plan development, trauma intervention, health screenings and education.
The Tara Woods connection is through their MRC training.
“We have over 20 trained/experienced members at various levels here in our community,” said resident Frank Millette. “Since forming our chapter the Lee County Health Department has designated our community as a private point of distribution.”
Millette is one of the chairmen of the event, along with co-chair Lorraine Milligan, with help from resident Chuck Poveromo. The three are on the MRC board. Millette is also the Community Emergency Response Teams coordinator for North Fort Myers and specifically for Tara Woods.
“For MRC, if there was a pandemic or epidemic in this community, we would help here and in the rest of Southwest Florida,” he said.
The MRC is under the direction of the Lee County Health Department.
“They do work with the local Grace Community Center – blood pressure and medical screenings, H1N1 flu clinics and more,” he said.
The funds raised at the dance will help buy equipment and supplies.
“People like the ’50s and ’60s music, and hopefully we’ll fill the place,” he said.
The dance is from 7-10 p.m., with cabaret seating and BYOB.
There is a $10 donation to attend.
