Another contest “Who’s the author?” is also now going on at the library.

The North Fort Myers Library is now hosting a “Design A Bookmark” contest with the first place winner getting a professionally printed bookmark with their art.

The contest runs now through Oct. 7.

“The theme is ‘Come Alive with Books’,” said Children’s and Reference Librarian Denise Hancock. All Lee County Libraries will have a first place winner that will get the printed prize.

Children in grades 3-5 are encouraged to enter the annual contest. Entry is free and forms are available at all Lee County Library System libraries and the Bookmobile.

The 14 first place winners will each receive a Books-A-Million $10 gift card, a Pieces of Eight pirate cruise pass, professionally printed copies of their bookmark and an invitation to the winners’ reception to be held at 7 p.m. on Nov. 18, at Art of the Olympians.

“Every year we received hundreds of bookmarks that represent the imagination and visions that reading inspires in young people,” said Lee County Library System Program Coordinator Voncile Williams. “The entries are always colorful and expressive and selecting the winners is difficult.”

“We use volunteers as judges at North Fort Myers branch,” said Hancock. “They are always impressed with the entries.”

Children can pick up a flyer with the bookmark outline at the library.

“We are also doing a ‘Who’s The Author’ contest, for children ages 6 and up. They can win a free book by guessing the authors and matching them to their titles,” said Hancock.

Velcro-backed names of authors are next to the display of books. “They match each author to a book, and the staff checks their answers.”

It encourages children to use the catalogue to find out which author penned each book. “That contest runs through Sept. 30,” Hancock said.
