A new pastor who considers himself a “blue-collar pastor.” has joined Christ Community Church.

“I consider myself a blue-collar pastor because I learned ministry from the trenches,” said Bill Yomes.

He wants to keep those roots.

He was born in New Jersey, and has since traveled and ministered throughout the Eastern Seaboard as well as Virginia, Georgia and Florida.

His concentration now will be the local church.

His favorite saying is, “People don’t know what you know until they know what you can do.”

On the beautiful large campus on Orange Grove Boulevard, where church members come from both North Fort Myers and Cape Coral, he finds the opportunity “exceptional.”

“This opportunity is unique,” he said, because of the central, diverse location. Located on Orange Grove Boulevard near Hancock Bridge Parkway, there are two schools nearby, middle- to low-income families surrounding the campus and 55-plus area residents all around the church.

There will be no changes in worship services now, with the church offering traditional and modern worship services. A service for Hispanic community members is now being discussed.

“Our food pantry is serving up to 120 families a week.”

The busy pantry is one reason he said he is excited to be part of the church.

He has several guitars in his office and he plays guitar, bass and keyboard.

“My wife Melanie and I have been worship pastors for eight years, and she is a vocal team leader.”

He also brings his 2-year-old son Micah to the community.

He is looking forward to the large community picnic, which in the past has brought out hundreds. It will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29, starting at 3 p.m.

“There will be carnival games, a bounce house and a dunk tank. I will be in that dunk tank,” he said. “Come join us for an afternoon of family fun and games.”

The event is free, and there will be several prizes given out each hour.

“The grand prize will be something for the entire family,” he said, adding there will be something for mom, dad and the kids.

“It is a way for the community to meet me and our church family.”

His first official day at the church was Oct. 4. Now he is getting to know the congregation, and is exploring needs. Key staff members include Rose Cuplit, administrative assistant, and Youth Pastor Jack Long.

Concerning the history of the church, it was located in Cape Coral several years ago before acquiring the new, larger campus, and still has many Cape Coral congregation members.
