Shuffleboard tournament season has started for the Lee County Shuffleboard Club at North Fort Myers Community Park. There will be 22 tournaments in the six-month tournament season.

Officials also announced that the popular free lessons will begin in November.

On the first week of tournament play, Landy Adkins and Lynwood Headlee took first place in the Main Event, with Ed O’Neal and Dave Boncher taking second. In third place were Rich Heinrichs and Al Nelson. Ollie Thomas and Earl Swindlehurst earned fourth place.

In the Consolation Event, Helen Biaggi and Joan Buck took first place, with Jack Moore and Elton Brown second. Scottie Keusch and Bob Swift finished in third and Mel Clckovich and Peggy Boncher fourth.

“Right now we will play from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Starting Nov. 1 through May 1, we will play from 1 to 3:30 p.m.,” said Wally Thyssen, president of the organization.

“Starting the first week of November, on Saturdays from 9 to 11 a.m., we will again be offering free lessons. You don’t have to bring equipment, we have the sticks.”

The lessons have proven very popular. “They have been for the last four years, and we do get new members from them.”

Officers this year include Thyssen, John Speer first vice president; Scottie Keusch second vice president; Linda McRae treasurer and Phyllis Bigel, secretary.

Last year, the club had more than 275 members, with someone from almost every community in North Fort Myers represented.

The Lee County Shuffleboard Courts are at the North Fort Myers Community Park, behind the library, at 2001 N. Tamiami Trail.
