Pedestrian Traffic Fatality
On Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at 7:58 pm, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a vehicle versus pedestrian crash. The incident occurred near the business address of 1165 Pondella Road, Cape Coral, Florida. Deputies responded to the scene.
Preliminary information indicates three youths were crossing from the north side of Pondella Road to the south. The driver of the vehicle was headed east in the right lane when the three suddenly appeared with two successfully making it across the unlighted portion of the roadway. Despite braking and swerving, the driver was unable to avoid the third pedestrian, a fifteen-year-old female. The driver of the car, a 2005 Ford Taurus, is identified as 30 year old Lauren Franklin of North Fort Myers.
The pedestrian was transported as a trauma alert to Lee Memorial Hospital. Life saving efforts to the critically injured teenage victim were unsuccessful. She was pronounced dead at the hospital at 9:45 pm. The pedestrian is identified as Taylor A. Palmer (d-o-b 4/14/96) of 1421 N.E. 10th Terrace, Cape Coral.
