The Bayshore Fire Protection and Rescue Service District recently held a “training burn” of a house in North Fort Myers to better train for a house fire emergency.

Bayshore Fire Chief Larry Nisbet spearheaded the burn.

“The purpose was to conduct training as a exercise for firefighters to sharpen their skills,” he said.

“We were able to perform this training by a generous donation of a house in North Fort Myers from Mr. and Mrs. Harder of the Bayshore area of North Fort Myers.”

Numerous skills were honed, he said.

“We practiced advancing hose lines, and fire attacks on a single family home,” he said. “Training like this enables us to hone our skills, so that we are we faced with a fire, we operate in the best matter possible.”

It wasn’t just the local station that benefitted from the experience.

“We also had other fire departments participate,” he said. “That included Fort Myers Shores, Tice, the city of Fort Myers and Estero.”

The training began at 7 a.m. and was concluded at 3 p.m.

“It was very successful and a good learning experiment by all.”

The station will also be collecting for its holiday campaign through the month.

“We would appreciate any donations of new, unwrapped toys at the station.”

The department has distributed the toys to children in need in the area for many years.

The Bayshore Fire Protection and Rescue Service District is located at 17350 Nalle Road in North Fort Myers. For information on the holiday campaign, call 543-3443.
