At 6:21 a.m. Saturday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a medical assistance call. A passerby found a man lying in the grass just off of the sidewalk, along the south side of Pondella Road, across from the intersection at Landsdale Drive.

EMS arrived on scene and pronounced the man dead. Deputies established a crime scene and soon discovered the body of a second man behind the closed businesses. As a result, Pondella was closed between Barrett Road and Sabal Gardens Drive for most of the morning.

Due to the nature of the incident, homicide detectives with the LCSO Major Crimes Unit are assigned to continue the investigation. Crime scene investigators with the Forensics Unit arrived to document and collect evidence.

The District 21 Medical Examiner’s Office will perform autopsies to confirm the causes of death. Detectives are continuing efforts to positively identify the two men.
