Ft. Myers Beach Pier to be temporarily closed to public
Public access to the Ft. Myers Beach Pier will be closed from November 14t through November 18 to complete scheduled maintenance to the walk-surface area of the pier.
The walk-surface repairs will include a new aggregate top coating that will be waterproof and provide a non-skid surface.
The scheduled maintenance began in July 2011 and will continue through January 2012. The maintenance includes replacing the hand rails, upgrading hardware with stainless steel, replacing starboard, placing conduit under the handrails for water and electrical wiring, ADA aluminum joint covers, and the wrapping of 57 pilings. The maintenance is funded through the Tourist Development Council and will cost approximately $1 million. All associated work is being performed by local subcontractors.
