Weaver to be presented Eagle Scout award honor

Joshua N. Weaver of North Fort Myers has earned the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America offers to Scouts, the Eagle Scout Award.

Weaver will be recognized in ceremonies on Dec. 10 at the Saint Andrews Church Parish Hall at 6 p.m.

A member of St. Andrews Church’s Troop 34, Weaver is one of approximately 4 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank, according to Scoutmaster Brian Weller.

Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community, church, or synagogue-related service project to earn his Eagle; Weaver chose to build a 16-foot bridge and successfully restored flow of water to Yellow Fever Creek in the Yellow Fever Creek Park. In addition, Weaver has earned the Bronze, Gold and Silver Palms, being the first Scout in the history of Troop 34 to have earned three Eagle Palms.

He has served as Order of the Arrow Representative, Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, and Chaplains Aide and received the status of Brotherhood in the Order of the Arrow.

Weaver joins other outstanding American citizens who have become Eagle Scouts, among them former President Gerald R. Ford, Jr., astronaut Neil A. Armstrong, cinematographer Steven Spielberg, and the former head of the F.B.I., William Sessions.

He is a member of Christian Life Fellowship and is active in his VOX youth group and is on the VOX Worship Team as a vocalist, guitarist and pianist. Weaver is also a member of the National Honor Society and Musical Theatre at Island Coast High School where he is a senior.

Weaver is the son of Lawrence and Michelle Weaver of North Fort Myers.

Joshua will be recognized in ceremonies on December 10 at the Saint Andrews Church Parish Hall at 6 p.m.
