Commissioner Hall looking for local artists to display work at her office
Lee County Commissioner Tammy Hall has put out a “call for artists” for exhibits in her office through 2012.
“I am looking for local artists willing to show their work in our Fort Myers office during 2012,” Hall said. “It is important that we continue to support the incredible talent that we have here is Southwest Florida.”
There are different dates and themes where local artists can display their works. The space can hold 11-12 medium large pieces. All pieces should be ready to hang. There are some flat surfaces to display ceramic and 3D work. Artwork will be on display for six weeks.
Local artist Gary Olson of the Herons Glen Artists Group had his work displayed this year, 2011.
“It was a prestigious thing – very nice having my paintings there. I displayed scenes of the Fort Myers area, including the Langford-Kingston Home. I was very proud to be selected to have my artwork displayed there. It was an all around great experience.”
Olson was president of the local artist’s group for 10 years, and is now vice president. “We have 50 members of our artists group in Herons Glen,” he said.
Hall outlined the themes:
– Feb. 13 through March 30 – “We’d like to showcase Black History month and International Women’s Day.”
– April 2 to May 11- “We’d like to showcase Earth Day and/National Photography Month”.
– May 14 – June 29 – Theme Pending
– July 30 to Aug. 31- “We’d like to showcase – Dog Days of Summer.”
– Sept. 3 through Oct. 17 – “We’d like to showcase Hispanic Heritage Month.”
– Oct. 19 through Nov. 30 – “We’d like to bring awareness to Breast Cancer Awareness Month.”
– Dec. 3 through Jan. 11, 2013 – “We will be concluding the year-long celebration of 125 years of Lee County.”
If you are interested in showcasing a theme or if you have a suggestion for a pending month, Hall asked that you email her and include the dates you are interested in and a link or example of your work.
“We welcome returning artists that have displayed in our office, but will give preference to first time displayers,” she said.
