Need a tree? Support local Boy Scouts with purchase at Good Shepherd

2 min read

Local Boy Scout Troop 110 is currently holding a holiday tree sale at Good Shepherd Church and School at the corner of Hancock Bridge Parkway and Orange Grove Boulevard, on the border of North Fort Myers and Cape Coral.

James Guillard is the Scoutmaster, and also a Business Systems Analyst – Project Coordinator Information Systems at Lee Memorial Health System. “We have members from both North Fort Myers and Cape Coral,” he said. “This is our seventh year doing the sale. All of the profits go directly for the scouts, for activities.”

Many are of the camping kind. “The sale helps pay for transportation to summer camp, pays for camping supplies needed throughout the year for the scouts including gas for camping trips. We normally do about 12 camping trips a year.”

A North Fort Myers resident, Guillard said, “I’ve been scoutmaster four years now, prior to that an assistant scout leader for several years. Scouting is important because it gives the boys healthy activities. It keeps them away from drugs and alcohol, and in my opinion gives them a good moral foundation.”

Sales so far are good, he reported. “We’ve only been open less than two weeks. All of our trees are Fraser Fir – we get them from a company in Sparta, NC. We’ve been doing business with the same company since we started and customers tell us every year the trees last well into January.”
