Dredging of access channel in Waterway Estates
The Lee County Division of Natural Resources (LCDNR) is working in conjunction with the West Coast Inland Navigation District (WCIND) to dredge the access channel connecting the Waterway Estates area to the Intracoastal Waterway.
Identified as one of 48 high priority public channels, approximately 1800 cubic yards of material will be removed from the navigation channel to restore the safe operating depth to 5 feet at mean lower low water. The dredged material will be offloaded at the County property adjacent to the Waterway Estates Wastewater Treatment Plant. Once dry, the material will be removed from the site. Trucking of the dry material will be sporadic and variable on any given day. The total number will average less than 2 trucks per day over the estimated 90 day project length.
Boaters should approach the barge working in channel slowly and with caution. Dredge crew will direct boat traffic as necessary to safely pass around equipment and work area. Brief delays should be anticipated when navigating the channels during construction. Construction is anticipaed to start in late January.
