Friends of Library to hold book sale

3 min read

If you are a book lover and a bargain lover, don’t miss the Friends of The North Fort Myers Library Annual Book Sale on Friday, Jan. 27, and Saturday, Jan. 28.

And if you are a poet at heart, don’t miss the program – “Yours Affection-ately, John Keats” – which will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 19

Books and other items will be offered at tremendously low prices, to help fund the library through the support group, Friends of The North Fort Myers Library.

“The Friends of the North Fort Myers Library are ‘silent partners’ who work behind the scenes to support the library through a variety of functions. They augment library services, programs and materials beyond those covered by the library’s normal operating budget through a variety of fund-raising activities. Our level of quality customer service would not be what it is today without our Friends. We greatly appreciate their efforts,” said Elaine Weissborn, Reference Librarian for the Lee County Library System.

Current Friends of the Library can come Friday for a special preview sale, with the sale open to the public on Saturday.

“On Friday the public can come and become a member to take advantage of the preview – and it is only $5 to join,” said Jessica Reed, who serves as vice president for the Friends group.

There will be a wide variety of items for sale, including books and CDs.

The book sale is one of the group’s annual fund-raising events.

Also part of the event is the wildly popular returning poet program, presented again by Ian Frost and written by Studdiford.

“They are so knowledgeable and professional, and I think they awe the audience,” said Carol Edmier of the Friends of the Library. “It’s amazing to me how popular Keats and other poets are in this area – it takes people back into their memories.”

“Last year’s performance was worthy of Broadway,” said Linda Yorde, who is president of the Friends of the Library local group.

Also part of the event is the wildly popular returning poet program, presented again by Ian Frost and written by Bill Studdiford, on Thursday, Jan. 19, at 11 a.m.

“Yours Affectionately, John Keats” is a new presentation by Studdiford, featuring Frost as Keats.

Keats’ letters and poems tell the story of a young man finding himself and his vocation with extraordinary candor. The program is sponsored by the Friends of the North Fort Myers Public Library.

Reservations are required and go fast, said Elaine Weissborn, reference librarian. You can call now to reserve your spot for the program by calling 533-4320.

North Fort Myers resident Gerry Sanzone has known Studdiford for over 50 years, from when they first worked together at IBM in New York City.

“We have remained friends since. They are absolutely fascinating. I was present at their first performance here at the North Fort years Library – ‘Byron In Love.'”

She said the audience was enthralled, and will be with this new production as well.

They have fascinating stories about touring all over the world with their shows. Look for a special profile on them in an upcoming edition of The Neighbor.
