When people think of New Year’s Resolutions – a majority think, “Think Fit.”

The owners and personal trainers at one of the major fitness centers in North Fort Myers – Next Level Fitness – are saying keeping at it is the key.

I’ve owned gyms for 25 years,” said one owner, Jeff Roberts. It’s the same every year. Basically one of the biggest resolutions people make is to get in shape. But most of them fail in 30 days or less – 99 percent of people have never been in their gym in their life, fumble around or don’t get results – no one will do something if they don’t get results.

That is why he and co-owner Jason McGillicuddy have came up with a new program “20/20.”

“We let people join for $20 per month with zero down and no enrollment fee, and we give one-on-one personal training sessions for $20. We literally just started this,” McGillicuddy said.

“They (patrons) love it,” he said of the response. “They are getting a certified professional trainer and nutritionist, for as little as $20 a session which is ensuring them the results they set out to achieve.

“The reason it is important to start out with a personal trainer, is first you don’t get hurt, and you learn to do it right from the beginning,” added Roberts.

Billy Keim, one of the personal trainers, is involved with the 20/20. It allows people to get quality personal training at an affordable price.

All age groups can benefit from the program, they said, from teens to seniors. “We have the most diverse group of people I have ever seen at this gym,” Roberts said.

“It’s also a social gathering place. That’s the recipe for success by many of these people, said McGillicuddy.

The two have owned the gym for almost two years. The largest percentage they are seeing is seniors. One customer is 95 and works out every day or two.

They also promote the popular SilverSneakers Program.

SilverSneakers is designed to be a fun, energizing program that helps older adults take greater control of their health by encouraging physical activity and offering social events. Health plans around the country offer the award-winning program to people who are eligible for Medicare or to group retirees. SilverSneakers provides a fitness center membership to any participating location across the country.

Jo Ann Berry is a trainer and the SilverSneakers Coordinator. Silver Sneakers is geared to help seniors with daily living activities.

The class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays and Saturdays from 9 to 10 a.m. “They (the participants) enjoy it 100 percent,” she said.

“There are only three gyms in Lee County that are qualified under the SilverSneakers, and we are one of them,” said McGillicuddy.

Roberts said seniors can call to find out about eligibility.
