Local Foundation announces expanded information program for medical community
Five nationally recognized medical professionals will be presenting a day long symposium on diagnoses and treatment of the disease, Scleroderma, and related issues.
The program is sponsored by the Susan Marie Scleroderma Foundation of North Fort Myers, whose President, Connie Buchholz, announced that presentation details have been confirmed. Physicians, nurses, other health care professionals, patients and families are invited, subject to the capacity of the meeting room.
The Symposium will be conducted in Building AA, room 177 of Edison State College. The address is 8099 College Parkway in Fort Myers. It is free to all who attend.
Presenters include: Virginia Steen, M.D., Professor of Medicine, Rheumatology, Immunology & Allergy, Georgetown Univ. School of Medicine, Washington D.C.; John Varga, M.D., Professor Rheumatology, Northwestern Univ., Chicago, Ill.; Dinesh Khanna, M.D., M.S., Associate professor of Medicine, Scleroderma Program Director, Univ. of Michigan; Daniel Furst, M.D., Carl M. Pearson Chair of Rheumatology, Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA, Los Angeles, CA.; and Elaine Furst, RN, MS, Lecturer/Outreach Director, Scleroderma Foundation – Southern CA Chapter, Los Angeles, CA.
The primary objectives of the program are:
– Learning how to recognize the symptoms and treatment options for lung disease associated with scleroderma
– Discussion of new drug research and pre-clinical studies in scleroderma
– Learning the different manifestations of gastrointestinal involvement in scleroderma
– Discussion of diagnostic and therapeutic options for gastrointestinal involvement in scleroderma
– How to interpret laboratory tests in the diagnosis of scleroderma
– Identifying the signs and symptoms of depression with scleroderma
Registration and coffee are from 8 to 8:30 a.mm with introductions at 8:30 and the first presentation beginning at 8:45. Lunch will be served from 12:15 – 1 p.m. when the presentations will resume. Following the presentations there will be 45 minutes devoted to a question and answer session with the meeting finishing at 4 pm.
Medical professionals may receive continuing education credits for participation in this activity. Lee Memorial Health System designates this live activity for a maximum of 5 AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s) and also has applied for 5 contact hours for continuing Nursing Education.
