Tour guides needed for Burroughs Home

2 min read

Are you a history buff? The Uncommon Friends Foundation is looking for men and women who would like to become volunteer tour guides at the Burroughs Home. Guides would provide one-hour tours of the historic Georgian Revival style home, located on the bank of the Caloosahatchee River in the Downtown River District of Fort Myers. Tours are offered to the public Tuesday through Friday each week.

The Burroughs Home is one of the oldest homes in Fort Myers, dating back to 1901, and has undergone several renovations in the past few years. The house is furnished with select original family pieces and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The elegant two-and-a-half-story home features a fabulous covered veranda, 14-foot ceilings, and a grand staircase.

Individuals interested in becoming tour guides are asked to contact Christine Forbes at the Uncommon Friends Foundation, 239-337-0706 or Christine@BurroughsHome.com. The foundation assumed management of the Burroughs Home in 2008, which also serves as its headquarters.

The Uncommon Friends Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization established in 1993 dedicated to lifelong character-building among today’s youth and business leaders. The foundation teaches and recognizes the same positive values author James D. Newton discovered in five unique men and their wives-Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Harvey Firestone, Dr. Alexis Carrel, and Charles Lindbergh-intellectual giants who helped shape the 20th Century. The foundation promotes character education in schools, business ethics in the workplace and historic preservation of the Burroughs Home and James Newton Archives.
