Annual membership meeting for NFM Civic Association
Board members of the North Fort Myers Civic Association announced that on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m. they will conduct its annual membership meeting at the Community of Christ Church, 368 Herron Rd. in North Fort Myers.
“We are an important local volunteer organization,” said Association president Gregg Makepeace. “Everyone pitches in their time for the betterment of North Fort Myers,” he said.
The membership will elects six directors to the board that night. Nominations have not yet closed. Contact 543-3510 should you wish to place your name on the ballot.
Board members come from varied backgrounds, including Makepeace’s own top business and top military service, along with current business owners and young members of the board. “We have varied ages,” he said.
The membership will also vote on by-laws changes.
“The key issues are that we will review 2011 issues and then look at 2012, what we have already identified as issues. And we’re looking at public input on more.”
This year there is much to report regarding the Association activities, officials said, including the construction schedule for the proposed Recreation Center to the lighting improvements on Bayshore Road.
All North Fort Myers residents are encouraged to attend the meeting.
On March 6, there will then be a Community Planning and Design Review Panel meeting at the same church, and the Civic Association is participating in the meeting.
“I encourage all North Fort Myers Citizens to attend that meeting as well. We’ll have a wide range of subject matter including land development code, library, sewage diversion out of Waterways Estates and more.”
Officials for that meeting are also encouraging input from residents.
The Civic Association works with three other main organizations in the area, the Community Planning Panel, the Design Review Panel and the North Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce.
“The chamber and the Civic Association the North Fort Myers, with the Planning Panel and Design Review Panel are working together for the overall benefit of the community,” said Chamber president Dick Collins. “We do and should work together for the betterment of the community. That is the Civic Association’s purpose.”
The recent ribbon-cutting was held at Weaver’s Corners as part of Discover North Fort Myers program, a program designed to promote local businesses and tourism in the area. The Civic Association was there in support.

The membership will also vote on the following by-laws change:
n Article V, section 5.1 delete: A quorum consisting of at least seven (7) BOD members must be present to conduct business.
n Add: A quorum of the BOD must be present in order to conduct business. A quorum is defined as a majority of currently seated board members.
