Planning Panel to host town hall meeting
The North Fort Myers Community Planning Panel will hold a Town Hall meeting to discuss important future development issues on Tuesday, March 6. The public is encouraged to attend, to learn about the issues, and give their input.
Four top issues top the agenda, including land development code, expansion of the North Fort Myers Library, sewage diversion out of Waterways Estates and more.
“The public is urged to come, see, hear, learn and speak at this grassroots democracy event,” said Mike Land, chairman of the Community Planning Panel.
The Planning Panel will be joined by the Design Review Panel, the North Fort Myers Civic Association, and the North Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce in this endeavor to get the community involved in the future of North Fort Myers development.
“The NFMCPP is a volunteer group created six years ago, which promulgated a Vision Statement and has devoted most of its effort to drafting, with the help of LaRue Planning Associates, the first major overhaul to the North Fort Myers Land Development Code in 30 years,” Land said.
He announced that this Land Development Code was recently enacted into law by the Lee County Commission, and that it will be presented to the public at this Town Hall Meeting by Kathie Ebaugh, Lee County principal planner.
It features a stated preference for Old Florida architecture which should add a distinctive look to new construction in North Fort Myers over the ensuing decades. The next phase in this process, the Town Center concept, will be presented by Jim LaRue and GOAL 28 will be presented by Anthony Palermo, Lee County Planner.
Other subjects to be presented are: A progress report on the Waterway Estates Wastewater Diversion Project, some 10 miles long, presented by project managers for Florida Gulf Utilities Authority; resident input for suggested usages of the former North Fort Myers Waterway Estates sewer plant site; resident input for suggested sites for a projected NFM Regional Library and possible county office campus.
The program will conclude with a meeting of the North Fort Myers Design Review Panel to consider an informative session by a resident seeking a variance to attach a garage to an existing home. All are invited to attend and comment on these important events slated for North Fort Myers.
