Chrome Divas’ Mystery Ride to benefit Bootstrap Ministries
The Chrome Divas of Cape Coral/Fort Myers, a local women’s riding group, is sponsoring a Mystery Ride on Sunday, April 1, to raise funds for Cape Coral Bootstrap Homeless Ministry.
This event will be begin at Gatorz Bar & Grill and end at Victory Lane Cafe, both off Hancock Bridge Parkway in North Fort Myers.
It’s similar to a Poker Run but with a twist.
“The riders don’t know where they are going until they get a clue,” said the Divas’ Director Laurie DeSouza. “They’ll get their first clue at Gatorz when they register, and that will direct them to their second place and so on. There will be three mystery stops between Gatorz and the end at Victory Lane.”
There will be live music, a 50/50 raffle and more at Victory Lane when the riders come in.
Part of the fun will include the band, Under The Influence, which will play at Victory Lane when the bikes come in.
“They are from Cape Coral. I heard so much about them and asked them if they would donate their time and they graciously said yes.”
Music will be in the afternoon approximately from 1 to 4 p.m.
The raffle will include a “spin wheel” to get tickets for the raffle. “Whatever you spin, you win. For $5 you get six spins; it is like a roulette wheel.”
It’s fun for a good cause, she said. “The Chrome Divas plan and participate in many fundraising events to make a difference in someone’s lives.”
Cape Coral Bootstrap Homeless Ministry is a non-profit charitable organization that provides meals and other services to homeless individuals and families, and others in need, in Cape Coral and North Fort Myers. They have been serving the local community for the last four years.
Joe Irvin is the pastor of Bootstrap.
“My wife and I helped start the ministry, along with our board,” he said. “We call it ‘bootstrap’ because we want to assist homeless people to lift themselves up and get off of the streets. Our motto is that we offer a meal and a prayer.”
They serve many from the Cape and North Fort Myers at Christ Community Church on Orange Grove Boulevard, near the border of both areas.
“We do meals and other services Monday nights,” Irvin said. We open doors at 4:30, about 5 p.m. we generally have salad and bread and then a regular meal, then distribute clothing and bedding and things like that. The third Monday we have haircuts.
“The Mystery Ride will help us achieve our budget and continue to provide services. Laurie volunteers for us and the Chrome Divas do a number of fundraisers in the area, and chose us this year.”
Bootstrap Director Libby Simon-Holschbach has been instrumental in the planning of the event as well, he said.

“We can always use donations of clothing, toiletries, food and other items such as toilet paper, batteries (AA, AAA), insect repellent, backpacks, blankets, tarps and tents,” Irvin said. “Cash donations are always helpful as well.”
