Island Coast High College and Career Night draws thousands
The Island Coast High School College and Career Night held Feb. 15 drew more than 2,400 students and their parents from throughout Lee County.
“Colleges and technical schools from six different states helped make the third annual College Fair an overwhelming success,” said Nancy Hagy, Advancement Via Individual Determination teacher who coordinated the event. “There was something for everyone there.”
She said students from almost every Lee County High School attended, to meet representatives and learn about everything from admissions, academic programs, financial aid, scholarships, campus life and more.
Alumni from the University of Iowa were among the many there, including Justin McBride, with two Iowa supporters, freshmen Brittany Russell-Brown and Emerson Nein.
AVID students who greeted the college representatives included sophomore representative Desiree Gil Flager College, freshman Shania Sheridan Hodges University, sophomore representative Derela Brown Clemson University and Freshman Sloan Proctor Air Force.
There was more than 36 state and private schools at the event, all major Division 1 colleges or universities from the state of Florida, community colleges and representatives from all main military branches including the Air Force, Army, Navy and Marines and West Point Academy. Specialized institutions also dispensed information.
Hagy said she believes the event will be even bigger and better next year.
