3 min read

Hop on over and join the Easter Egg Hunt, said officials from North Fort Myers First Baptist Church.

It is part of their Easter Egg Outreach, said Special Events Chairman Stephen Sheldon.

He’s been the special events chairman at the church since 1984.

“I was born and raised here,” he said of the church.

Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the hunt at starting at 10 a.m.

“We have over 1,300 eggs,” he said, and some prizes to be handed out as well.

His young son Kaleb, who is 17 months, has been at the church helping organizers get ready for the big Easter egg hunt.

“Kaleb is a fifth generation from our family at the church,” his dad said.

Kaleb’s grandmother, Nancy Specie, is the church secretary and a charter member of this church.

“The church is now 60 years old,” she said.

“We just celebrated our 60th anniversary this past November,” added Sheldon.

“We will also have Goodie Bags for all the kids as well. That would include some inspirational messages.”

They will also have inspirational body stickers, something like a non-permanent tattoo for the kids.

“We’re also going to have refreshments. “

The group is Southern Baptists.

“A lot of the Goodie Bag things will be related to our religion,” he said, such as Bible verses stickers and coloring books.

A lot of big prizes have been donated by church members.

“This is our first year for the Easter egg hunt and it will also be our first year to do a big Fall Festival. We already had a Valentine’s event. Our goal is to reach out to the community.

“We do this with no funding. It’s strictly volunteer-based.”

Two women on his committee he would like to mention are Carolyn Brown and Jane Putterbaugh.

“You can come out and see Kaleb help hunt for eggs,” he said.

“As soon as the event is over we will start planning for our Fall Festival and looking for sponsors.”

Parking is suggested on the west side of the building. The other parking lot will be roped off.

There is a registration slip in the Neighbor this week.

“You could fill it out and have it ready to go at the registration table.”

There are be three separate events, the first for toddlers up to age four, then 5 to 7 and then 8 to 10.

The North Fort Myers First Baptist Church is at 75 Evergreen Rd.
