NFM Orioles to hold Luau party

2 min read

There will be three bands, food, a “Best Hawaiian Outfit” (Men and Women) and even a limbo contest at the North Fort Myers Orioles Nest 301 Luau party Saturday, April 21.

The event will begin at 4 p.m. featuring bands Straight From The Tap, Morning Wood Blues and Back Track.

The organization will hold the party not only as a fun-filled day for members, but also as a fund-raising and membership drive.

The band preview is a special event all its own, called “Rock-In Throttle.” That is an organization of motorcyclists who promotes local musicians.

“It’s a way to introduce news bands to the community, as well as a membership drive,” said Doug Pedigo, who is owner of the club and president of the organization.

“This is also a way of raising funds to send local kids to local summer camps,” said member Kenny Cox. The organization has sponsored numerous children to attend summer camp at the North Fort Myers Community Center.

The organization does many charitable events throughout the year, said Rose Hall.

“We do Christmas and Thanksgiving fund-raisers for the community, and last year’s event to raise money to send kids to camp was very successful.”

Funds from both efforts of the Orioles Men’s Club and Ladies Auxiliary help many in need in the community summer and holidays, officials said.

“At this event it is a Hawaiian theme, with Hawaiian food, a limbo and hula contest,” Hall said. “There will also be prizes for best Hawaiian costumes for both men and women.”

No reservations are needed for this free event, which is open to the public. Food prices will be very reasonable, said member and chief cooking volunteer Randall Dull.

“There will be pork, ham, ribs, and Hawaiian side dishes like Hawaiian Potato Salad.”

They are still perfecting the recipes on those side dishes, he said.

Beside the Hog Roast, bands, contests and many raffles, there will discounted drink specials.
