‘Souper Bowl’ deemed a success

1 min read

On the day of Super Bowl, Feb. 5, there is a nation-wide collection to benefit the hungry called Souper Bowl of Caring. It was started by youth more than 20 years ago with a simple prayer, “Lord, as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us to be mindful of those without even a bowl of soup to eat.” The funds collected are donated locally to where you designate and only the amount collected is reported to the organization. Since it has started, $81 million has been raised for local charities.

The United Methodist Women’s unit of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in North Fort Myers conducted the collection at church and stood at the exits of church with soup pots, labeled with “Souper Bowl of Caring,” after the Saturday service and the two Sunday services. The church attendees were generous and $1001 was collected for Harry Chapin Food Bank in Fort Myers.
