* Regular Monday volunteers are needed for cat care at the Animal Refuge Center (ARC). If you would be able to help with cat care Monday mornings for Mondays, please email vcarc@animalrefugecenter .net or call 731-3535.
* Grace Community Thrift Store is looking for volunteers – especially for the new Designer & Boutique Center. Other volunteers are needed with processing donations, pricing and arranging displays, sorting clothes and other misc. duties. The Grace Community Thrift Store is located at 4151 Hancock Bridge Parkway, North Fort Myers. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday thru Saturday with extended hours until 5:30 on Wednesdays. * “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge needs volunteers
The J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge is currently seeking volunteers to help out in the Education Center assisting visitors and working in the book store. The refuge offers its volunteers a wide array of training opportunities, special programs, luncheons, off site educational trips, 30% discount in our book store, free tours with our concessionaire, paid tolls and the opportunity to meet a wide array of great people. * ICAN Junction, the “green” home improvement thrift in North Ft. Myers, is in need of volunteers to assist with all sorts of work in the store. Experience in retail and construction helpful. Some duties will require background check. All sales support the vital client services for HIV+ women and men provided by Island Coast AIDS Network (ICAN). ICAN Junction is located in the United Plaza behind Jersey’s Sports Pub at 13971 North Cleveland Avenue. Hours are 9-5:00 Monday thru Saturday. * Naturalists needed
Volunteer Interpretive Naturalists are needed as educational guides at Conservation 2020 Preserves on Pine Island and North Fort Myers.
* Drivers Needed to Aid Cancer Patients
The American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery Program is in need of volunteers who are willing to drive cancer patients to and from cancer treatments. Training is provided to those who want to volunteer their time. Schedules are flexible and drivers can drive as little or as much as they like.
Requirements for volunteering include having a good driving record, a valid driver’s license, and a vehicle in good working condition. For more information call 866-739-5288 ext. 5803. Lack of transportation is one of the biggest challenges facing cancer patients. Consider making a difference in a cancer patient’s life.
* Healthy Start of Southwest Florida, which is an organization dedicated to saving babies, is in need of volunteers! They strive to reduce the number of infant deaths and the number of premature or low birth weight babies throughout Southwest Florida. Volunteer opportunities include grant writing, event planning, receptionist/clerical, and serving on various committees. For more information, contact RSVP of Lee County at 275-1881.

* The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools is in need of mentors to match with high school students who have been awarded the Take Stock in Children Scholar-hip.
The mentor commits to meet with the child during school hours two to four times a month. No tutoring is involved and basic training is provided.

* Children’s Advocacy
The Children’s Advocacy Center, which supports and protects the child victims of abuse through collaborative intervention and comprehensive treatment in a soothing environment needs volunteers. * Docents needed for Burroughs Home
Are you a history buff? The Uncommon Friends Foundation is looking for men and women who would like to become docents at the Burroughs Home. Docents would provide tours of the historical Georgian Revival style home, located on the bank of the Caloosahatchee River in the Downtown River District of Fort Myers.
The Burroughs Home is one of the oldest homes in Fort Myers, dating back to 1901, and has undergone several renovations in the past few years. The house is furnished with select original family pieces and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The elegant two-and-a-half-story home features a fabulous covered veranda, 14-foot ceilings, and a grand staircase.
Individuals interested in becoming docents, are asked to contact Uncommon Friends Foundation Executive Director Arlene Roth at 337-9505. The foundation assumed management of the Burroughs Home in 2008, which also serves as its headquarters.
The Uncommon Friends Foundation, established in 1993, is a character education foundation whose mission is to instill ethics, moral values and a sense of purpose in tomorrow’s leaders. The foundation is dedicated to enriching society by promoting the positive values author James D.
