New enterprise offers Indian goods, cuisine

2 min read

You enjoy Asian-Indian pastes and spices and groceries, you like the fun approach to the Far Eastern culture’s clothing, jewelry and music. But it’s no fun traveling here and there to discover new sensations, to find the things you need.

Now imagine finding these and other items in one convenient location, in fact, three storefronts converted into one huge outlet.

And imagine that what you seek isn’t available and the owner will tap his worldwide supply network and guarantee delivery in short order.

Now imagine no more – one stop shopping for all this and more is now available in neighboring Cape Coral.

The Moti Mahal Indian store, 1830 Del Prado South, is an emporium of Asian-Indian spices and teas and dry goods, men, women and children’s clothing, video, music and print entertainment, women’s accessories, cosmetics and fashion, shoes, souvenirs, posters, kitchenware and household items, said Kamaljit Uttam, the store’s owner.

They also carry fresh Indian vegetables, fruits and sweets, along with groceries.

Uttam said the location will soon offer furniture and other items relating to the highly popular cuisine and culture.

“We want a one-stop everything,” said Uttam, who has used social media, eBay and other platforms to sell and promote Asian-Indian cuisine, kitchenware and clothing.

This is his first retail store in southwest Florida. He owns similar stores in Europe and India.

It was a long process preparing, renovating and opening the Del Prado store, located just south of the Cape Wal-Mart on the opposite side.

He wanted the store organized, stocked and visually appealing, he said. So, it took seven months of work to meet his goals. Uttam had run a small Cape warehouse over the last couple of years, selling his imported goods online.

He also plans for an Asian-Indian restaurant and other related endeavors as the year progresses.

“What you do should always be the very best, the right way,” Uttam said.
