Strawberry Festival: Good Shepherd to hold community event

3 min read

The Good Shepherd United Methodist Church will once again bring strawberry lovers and the community together when it holds its sixth annual Strawberry Festival and Arts & Crafts show on Saturday at the church.

The Arts & Crafts fair will be held inside and outside the church from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., while the outside festival will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Strawberry Festival will offer fun things for all ages, with music, food drink, live animals, games for the kids and classic cars for the big boys.

Last year’s event, which has grown annually, brought in nearly 300 people. This year, with so many other things happening and the fact the festival is happening later than usual, church spokesperson Kay Twa said getting as many this year could be a tall order.

“Church activities made us put it off until the third weekend. We may face some competition, but we’re a different kind of event,” Twa said. “People can pick us in the morning and do other things in the afternoon.”

The big star will be the strawberries, with angel food cake and biscuits as the complements for strawberry shortcake. There will also be burgers, hot dogs, liquid refreshment and free popcorn, as well as baked goods inside the church to buy.

For those who love crafts, original watercolors, jewelry, ceramics, and other specialty items will be on sale from more than 30 vendors.

For the little kids there will be a bounce house, horseshoes, ring toss and other outdoor games, as well as petable animals sent over from the Shell Factory, while classic cars will be on display for the older kids who may remember driving those cars in their younger days.

There will also be lots of live entertainment on the stage, including music from The Entertainers and the Lezy B Pickers. Members of the church will also strut their stuff as the “Sheep Gone Astray” will perform “just for the fun of it.”

There will be free parking and all are welcome. The church is at 2951 Trail Dairy Circle.

“It’s going to be a good time and we’ve gotten a reputation as one of the friendliest churches in town,” Twa said. “Anyone who comes will be greeted warmly and have a good time.”

Pastor Tom Willetts said he hopes the event will bring together all people from the community while raising money for the church’s outreach programs.
