Attending summer camp in Lee County can be an expensive proposition. The Fraternal Order of the Orioles knows that, and is willing to lend a hand.

On May 24, the Orioles will hold its seventh annual fundraiser at its club at 13290 Cleveland Ave. starting at 2 p.m., with all proceeds going to children and families who would like to send their child to summer camp at the North Fort Myers Recreation Center. but don’t have the means.

Rose Hall, organizer of the event, said they try to send at least 10 to 15 children to camp annually and will do so through 50/50 raffles and other giveaways, thanks to contributions from some of the Orioles distributors,

There also will be a rib cook-off with a prize going to the winner, and a barbecue at $5 per plate with people coming in to bring side dishes, entertainment featuring local bands, Jello-shots, and more.

Last year’s event raised more than $1,000 and sent 15 kids to camp for a week, with a couple of children able to go for two weeks.

Summer camp costs $75 per week for the nine-week period starting June 8.

“I’d like to send 20 if we can raise enough money. Whatever we can do, all the money goes to them,” Hall said.

The Fraternal Order Orioles, founded in 1910, is a social organization comprised of men and women who want to make a difference in their respective communities through charitable means.

The local Orioles, which are comprised of many bikers, also do numerous poker runs and other activities for a Christmas families program through the schools so they can have dinner and presents.

On May 30, the Orioles will take part in a poker run for Aaron Pfuhl, a Cape Coral man who lost a leg after he was struck by a driver in February while riding his motorcycle. The driver of the car that struck Pfuhl was charged with DUI.
