Community park to host flea market
Got some trash that might be someone else’s treasure? You may want to bring it to the North Fort Myers Community Park on Saturday, Feb. 20.
That’s when the annual flea market happens from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot adjacent to the football fields, giving buyers a chance to pick up some bargains for pennies on the dollar and for sellers to make a few bucks from their closet and garage.
More than 50 spots, each one the size of a parking space, are expected to be available for $5 per pop (about 50 were sold last year). Those who want to sell their stuff will need to register by Feb. 19. Traditionally, many have signed up in the days before the flea market.
Sellers are asked to be at the park no later than 6:30 a.m. and set up until 7:30 a.m. Sellers must bring their own tables and chairs, as they will not be provided.
Among the items shoppers can expect are clothing, jewelry, toys, CDs, movies, furniture, household items and much more – most at bargain prices.
“Come out and enjoy the park and the nice weather. Maybe they can come to the rec center and see what activities we have for families,” Vance said. “Maybe they’ll become a member.”
Last year’s event brought in more than 500 people, as there was also an AAU basketball tournament going on. This year, Tiffany Vance, who is running the event, said many longtime visitors of the rec center are expected to drop by.
“Many of our members play basketball or do the activities here at the center, and last year many of them visited the flea market,” Vance said. “People from the weight room or pickleball came by the flea market, as did the outside traffic.”
