Heron’s Glen fine art show Sunday
The artists in the Heron’s Glen Golf & Country Club community will have the opportunity to display and sell their finest paintings and photography as the Heron’s Glen Artist Group presents its 18th annual fine art show on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event will take place in the Heron’s Glen ballroom and will feature nearly three dozen local artists who will display and sell their art.
Gary Olsen, vice president and one of the founders of the group, said the group puts together classes and workshops for the residents, which culminates in the art show that features the work of everyone from novices to accomplished artists.
“We bring in artists for workshops every year. This spring we’ll bring in Marie Natali from New York City, and we’ve had Tom Jones and Terry Madden, all well-known artists,” Olsen said.
Joan White, president and 14-year member of the group, said she got her start in art because of the group.
“When you retire you punch out and look for other things to do,” White said. “Quite a lot of us belong to art groups in Pine Island and Cape Coral. A lot of us are doing great artwork.”
Olsen said many of the artists paint in watercolors, oils and acrylic, and there are also photographers, and they have people who sculpt and do clay.
“More than half the members will show their work. There will be landscapes, portraits, florals and all kinds of things,” Olsen said. “This will be a judged show. We’re bringing in a professional art judge who will give ribbons to the top three in the various mediums.”
Olsen said he expected between 1,000 and 1,500 to attend throughout the day, thanks to advertising and other promotion. He said with the other art shows in the area, competition is tough, as Pine Island and Cape Coral recently held their own shows.
“We’re hoping to get more than just the Heron’s Glen people. Many here come especially for brunch at the restaurant and then will wander over to see us,” White said.
The Herons Glen Artist Group is a not-for-profit organization in the Herons Glen Golf and Country Club Community. It has 57 members, committed to providing growth opportunities for residents to develop their artistic interests, to help artist members promote their work in the area, and to provide them with opportunities for artistic idea exchanges.
There is no charge for the event and everyone is invited.
