Victory Baptist to offer Bible course

2 min read

Ever wanted to know what the Bible is really about? This course might give you the answers.

The best thing is you only have to buy one text book.

Victory Baptist Church, at 15880 Hart Road, is now accepting registrations from those interested in taking classes Monday nights with the Faith Bible Institute.

The Faith Bible Institute is a low-cost college-level Bible Survey course that gives people a birds-eye view of the Bible, both New and Old testaments, as well as theology, and what it all means. They are broken down into one-hour classes.

It is a three-year course and Victory Baptist is the only church in Southwest Florida that offers it. It has done so for eight years.

John Matey, pastor of Victory Baptist Church, said the course was started more than 30 years ago by a pastor in Louisiana.

Today, more than 47,500 Christians across the U.S. and 26 countries in seven continents worldwide have enrolled.

“They send a copy of their classes and we show them. The students take tests and it’s a good Bible study,” Matey said. “We don’t have many students, but over the years we’ve had 14 graduates, including myself and my wife. They all say the course is great.”

Matey said he had a professor come one night to watch the class, and he said it was better than the one they offered at his school.

Early enrollment is taking place between now and July. The semester begins in September.

Matey said there are currently five students in the class, three of whom have graduated and two others ready to graduate. To continue offering the course, the class needs at least five students per semester.

The cost of the course is less than $600 for all six semesters. Broken down, the cost comes to roughly $83 per semester, which can be paid in installments, Matey said.

“If you don’t know the Bible, this will give you a good foundation,” Matey said. “Everyone who has come in and watched it said it was real good. Many people can’t afford to go to Bible study. This gives them an opportunity.”
