Breaking news: North Fort Myers residents need to be on the lookout, as the Easter Bunny has lost 1,000 eggs from the North Fort Myers Civic Association.

It is believed that these red Easter eggs will be strewn all over people’s yards, and that finding one of them could result in a substantial reward.

It is the first NFMCA Easter Eggstravaganza. As of Thursday, plastic Easter eggs are being dropped in people’s yards.

The NFMCA had done an Easter egg hunt and dinner, but wanted to get more of the community involved and spread the joy and hope.

“We wanted to try to find ways to reach more of our residents. We purchased 1,000 red Easter eggs and will be randomly distributed throughout the area,” said Christy-Lee Iwanow, civic association vice president. “All you have to do to participate is check your front yard.”

If you find a red egg, go to www.nfmcivic.com and see if you have that ticket. If you win, you can further contact the association, who will set up when to collect your prize.

The NFMCA has been fundraising with its recent Wiffle Ball Bash and next month’s Clash of the Irons golf tournament, so it was time to give back.

Among the businesses donating prizes include Jamie’s Towing, Ellsworth Heating & Cooling, Larry’s Pawn.

The rest of the prizes are toys for the kids that can be picked out on a first-come, first-served basis.

As the civic association will be tossing the eggs onto yards randomly, there may be prizes won that may seem a little off for the winners.

“We don’t know whose yards we’ll be throwing these eggs into,” Iwanow said. “Someone might win a toy and they have no kids or win a service from Ellsworth and not own the home.”

It might be one of the few such hunts in the area this year, as the North Fort Myers Recreation Center isn’t doing one this year due to lack of staffing.
