Florida Repertory Theatre seeks experienced young performers to audition for the role of Billy Ray in “On Golden Pond” by Ernest Thompson. Directed by Producing Artistic Director, Greg Longenhagen, the production is one of nine plays and musicals scheduled for the theater’s 25th Anniversary Season. Auditions by appointment are scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 1 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Florida Repertory Theatre’s downtown campus.
Auditioning performers should visit the Casting Call page on the theater’s website to sign up for a 10-minute time slot (www.floridarep.org/about-florida-rep/casting-calls/), and should prepare the three audition scenes provided – in addition to a monologue of their choosing. Rehearsals begin Jan. 24, and the production runs Feb 14 – March 5 in the Historic Arcade Theatre.
“On Golden Pond” tells the love story of Norman and Ethel Thayer, who return every summer to the serene comfort of their New England lake house-but this summer, the couple’s life is turned upside-down when their estranged daughter shows up with an unexpected surprise: Billy, the 14-year-old son of her new fiancée.
Billy Ray is a moody teen from California boy who has to spend the summer with Norman and Ethel while his father travels abroad. Over the course of the play, Billy forms an unlikely bond with his curmudgeonly host, Norman, and their friendship changes both of their lives.
Florida Rep’s 25th Anniversary season is now playing at the Alliance for the Arts with “Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill” while clean-up efforts continue in its downtown performance venues. The season will open in the Arcade Theatre as planned later in October, and all productions are scheduled to proceed as previously planned.
Auditioning performers should visit the Casting Call pages of the Florida Rep website to sign up for an audition appointment and to find all the instructions on how to prepare for the audition and for instructions on where to go on Nov. 1.
COVID Safety Notice: Florida Repertory Theatre is a fully vaccinated workplace, and all cast performers must be fully vaccinated per CDC guidelines in order to work at Florida Rep. Proof of vaccination IS NOT required to audition.
The theater asks performers to follow any posted COVID safety guidelines, not to come to the theater if they are feeling ill, and to remain masked while inside the building. Performers may remove their mask while auditioning.
