School district: All 80 PreK-12th grade schools to ‘return to learning’ by Friday

Diplomat & Lexington middle schools to use Florida Virtual School platform; some schools to share campuses

All of the School District of Lee County’s 80 PreK through 12th grade schools will offer students “a learning environment” by Friday, with a handful to provide virtual or combined campuses for classes.

The schools to opening to students on Friday are:

• Pine Island Elementary

• Diplomat Middle School

Using the Florida Virtual School platform

• Paul Laurence Dunbar Middle School

• Hector Cafferata Elementary

Grades K-2 at partner school Hancock Creek Elementary

Grades 3-5 at partner school Pelican Elementary

• Gulf Middle School

• Lexington Middle School

Using the Florida Virtual School platform

• Skyline Elementary

The week started with 13 schools opening on Monday. Thirteen schools plus three special centers opened today. The largest group of schools, 42, will open on Wednesday. Five more will open on Thursday and the final seven return to teaching and learning on Friday.

School district adds two more schools to its re-openings list

The School District of Lee County will open two additional schools this Friday — Hector Cafferata and Skyline elementaries.

Hector Cafferata will open as one of the district’s partnership schools:

• Grades K-2 will open at partner school Hancock Creek Elementary

• Grades 3-5 will open at partner school Pelican Elementary

The School District has set nine criteria to determine if a school is safe to open in the wake of Hurricane Ian.

Schools that are cleared to open will provide their families more information about their reunification days and partner schools if necessary. The District will continue to provide regular updates of the schools cleared to open and the first day of class for students.

The following schools opened to students today, Tuesday, Oct. 18:

Allen Park Elementary, Buckingham Exceptional Center, Cypress Lake High, Edison Park Elementary, Hancock Creek Elementary, Ida S. Baker High, J. Colin English Elementary, James Stephens Elementary, Littleton Elementary, Manatee Elementary, Pinewoods Elementary, Royal Palm Exceptional Center, Tanglewood Elementary, Three Oaks Middle, and Villas Elementary.

The following schools will open to students on Wednesday, Oct. 19:
