Next month’s roster of activities at North Fort Myers Public Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:
Adult Programs
Chasing Your SNPs: Why Genetics Matters in Genealogy
1 p.m. Saturdays, Jan. 7, 14
Sessions are designed for people interested in DNA analysis for genealogy. Topics covered will include an introduction to Genetic Genealogy, what DNA testing is, applying DNA test results to research findings, understanding the various types and applications of DNA tests and using the results for genealogical problem-solving. Registration is required.
Sheryl Faye presents Ruth Bader Ginsburg
2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9
Ruth Bader Ginsburg is performed by actor Sheryl Faye, who brings stories of historical women to life in a unique and memorable way. Ruth Bader Ginsburg was an American lawyer and jurist who served as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1993 until her death in September 2020.
Books & Bites Social Hour
1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10
Join us for an hour of books, fun and conversation. Everyone is welcome to stop by to discuss their favorite books. Get recommendations on everything from recent releases to forgotten classics. Refreshments will be provided.
DIY Craft Club: Abstract Painting
2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12
DIY crafters can create a one of a kind painting in this craft program for adults. Bring your creativity and be prepared to paint. All materials will be provided. Registration is required.
President Truman performance
2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17
Jack Rabito, an accomplished local actor and director, brings Harry S. Truman to life in this one-person play. When Truman left the presidency in January 1953, he was one of the most unpopular politicians in the United States. Truman’s reputation, however, revived when people began to see him as a feisty man from “Middle America” rather than a partisan politician.
Substance Abuse and Misuse Workshop
6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17
This program will enable participants to recognize the key differences between the use, misuse and abuse of drugs and their effects on the human body. The presentation will include drug related information covering the topics of medically accepted uses and how to recognize the important differences between physical and psychological dependence.
Book Discussion: “Verity” by Colleen Hoover
2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19
Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish. Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity’s notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn’t expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read.
Protect Yourself against Scams

Each year, many people fall victim to scams. It’s important to learn about the steps you can take to help keep yourself safe. Please join Humana for an educational seminar on how to protect yourself from scams.
Arabian Princess
2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27
Return to an era when Zanzibar was ruled by sultans and enter a world of harems and court intrigues. Princess Salamah bint Said, the sultan’s youngest daughter, wrote a fascinating memoir for her children while in exile. Waterfall Productions has adapted her memoir into a theatrical presentation.

STEAM Saturday
10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7
Join us for a family-friendly STEAM exploration. Each month will feature a different activity based on the aspects of STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. This is a great opportunity for parents and kids to build, learn and play together.
Preschool Play Date
11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11
For families with children ages 3-5. Meet new friends while developing early literacy skills through free play with games, toys and music.
Kids Read Down Fines
2 – 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14
Children and teens can earn a $2 credit on overdue fines for every 15 minutes they read in the designated area for a total of $8 in one session. Please bring your library card.
Read to Dogs
2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14
Join us at the library to read to dogs. The dogs are registered therapy animals who volunteer with their owner/handlers as a team to help improve the literacy skills of children. You can read down fines or just encourage a love of reading in your children with reading to dogs.
Family Storytime
11 a.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 18, 25
For children through age 5 and caregivers. Families with young children enjoy a variety of stories, songs, rhymes and movement.
Baby Rhyme Time
11 a.m. Thursdays, Jan. 19, 26
For babies up to 18 months. Babies and caregivers wiggle and giggle in a supportive environment. Space is limited. Arrive early and visit the children’s desk to check in. First come, first served.
Family Craft Saturday
11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21
Children and their families are invited to join us for a morning of crafting. All supplies will be provided, just bring your creativity. No registration required.
Family Movie Day

Children and their families are invited to join us for a family movie. The movie will be rated G.
