Next month’s roster of activities at North Fort Myers Public Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

Adult Programs

Books & Bites

11 a.m. Monday, July 3

2 p.m. Thursday, July 20

Join us for an hour of books, fun and conversation. Everyone is welcome to stop by to discuss their favorite books. Get recommendations on everything from recent releases to forgotten classics. Refreshments will be provided.

Trivia: Star Wars

6 p.m. Tuesday, July 11

How well do you know Star Wars? Join us and test your knowledge against other Jedis in our Trivia Night.

DIY Craft Club: Christmas in July

2 p.m. Thursday, July 13

Escape from the summer heat and create holiday decorations in this fun craft program for adults. All materials will be provided and registration is required.

Using Technology to Stay Connected

11 a.m. Monday, July 17

Join Humana’s Health talk where Humana staff will share tips and techniques on using technology to stay connected.

Summer Social Hour

10 a.m. Wednesday, July 19

Learn about the library and socialize with friends and neighbors during this open-house style social hour for adults. Refreshments and information about library resources will be provided.

Children’s Programs

Kids Read Down Fines

2 – 3 p.m. Saturday, July 8

Children and teens can earn a $2 credit on overdue fines for every 15 minutes they read in the designated area for a total of $8 in one session. Please bring your library card.

Read to Dogs

2 p.m. Saturday, July 8

Join us at the library to read to dogs. The dogs are registered therapy animals who volunteer with their owner/handlers as a team to help improve the literacy skills of children. You can read down fines or just encourage a love of reading in your children with reading to dogs.

Tangle of Tales

1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 12

A taste of the familiar and a touch of the new. It’s Tangle of Tales, the imaginative creation of Grey Seal Puppets. Three favorite folk tales from around the world come to life: “The Frog Prince” from Germany teaches the importance of a promise, “Three Billy Goats Gruff” from Scandinavia warns us against gluttony and “The Three Little Pigs” from England is all about doing the job right. For ages 6-11. Registration is not required.

Preschool Summer Playdate

11 a.m. Thursday, July 13

This summer program is for families with children ages 3-5. Meet new friends while developing early literacy skills through free play with games, toys and music. No registration required.

Storytelling with Windell Campbell

1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 19

Experience the art of puppetry combined with the art of storytelling. This program uses songs, props and audience participation to bring stories to life. For ages 6-11. No registration is required but space is limited.

Little Explorers and Sensory Play

11 a.m. Thursday, July 20

For families with babies up to 18 months. Play with your baby and meet new friends during this special sensory play date that promotes social skills, motor skills and helps develop early literacy skills. This play date will include sensory toys, games and music to encourage a fun and bonding experience with your baby.

Operation Kindness: A Captain Friendship Adventure

1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 26

Join us for a live action theatre performance just for children. The Menace of Meanness is threatening to take over the world and only one super-duo has a chance to stop them – Captain Friendship and the Amazing Amigo. The Menace is a dangerous, shadowy figure who creeps up on our friends when they least expect it, bullying and pressuring them into behaving very badly. Captain Friendship must fearlessly oppose this villain and help all of our young audiences learn that they, too, can master the Menace of Meanness – but it’s going to take all of us working together on Operation Kindness. For ages 6-11. No registration is required by space is limited.

Adam’s Animal Encounters

2 p.m. Tuesday, July 11

Teens are invited to learn more about animals living in Southwest Florida with wildlife biologist Adam Pottruck. This hands-on, interactive program gives an up-close perspective on wildlife management, rescue and conservation. Registration is required.

Crafting All Together

2 p.m. Tuesday, July 18

Teens are invited to join us for an afternoon of crafting. All supplies will be provided, just bring your creativity.

The World is Your Oyster

2 p.m. Tuesday, July 25

If you care about the environment and water quality, you won’t want to miss this hands-on workshop with Sanibel Sea School. Participants will handle and measure live oysters with a caliper, learn more about the biology and importance of oysters and build an oyster garden during this interactive program for teens. Registration is required.
