North Fort Myers motorcyclist dies in Charlotte County crash

A North Fort Myers man died Thursday night in a traffic crash in Charlotte County.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 9:28 p.m. near the intersection of U.S. 41 (Tamiami Trail) and Tangelo Road in Charlotte County.

The North Fort Myers man, 45, was driving a motorcycle south in the right lane of U.S. 41 when he attempted to switch to the left lane and collided with the rear trailer portion of a Ram 2500 pickup truck driven by a 20-year-old man from Westwego, Louisiana.

The FHP report says that post collision the North Fort Myers man became separated from the motorcycle, which became engulfed in flames with the pickup truck.

The North Fort Myers man was pronounced deceased at the scene, FHP reported.

The driver of the pickup and his female passenger, also from Westwego, Louisiana, were uninjured in the crash, which remains under investigation.
